Republicans opened their first Midterm Republican National Convention in Dallas on September 9 with more than 50 speakers scheduled for the opening program. President Donald Trump was set to deliver the keynote after senior administration officials addressed the crowd. Vice President JD Vance and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent were among the major names scheduled to appear. The opening night put tax relief, border enforcement, voter identification, public safety, and economic growth at the center of the party's case.

Republicans also used the event to introduce candidates running in congressional districts that could determine control of the House. The Dallas convention opened the national phase of the 2026 campaign.

Democrats want November to become another referendum on Trump's personality. Republicans are answering with policy and consequence. Who lowered your taxes? Who enforced the border?

Voters deserve job descriptions, supervisory records, and proof that no foreign employee influenced campaign strategy, spending, or messaging.

I see one theme running through today's stories: power means nothing unless leaders use it responsibly. Republicans must turn majorities into lasting policy, Trump's diplomats must demand enforceable terms, and campaigns must follow the election rules they preach. You should judge every politician by results, not speeches.
